Q & A

WHAT IS A PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZER?
According to the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) a Professional Organizer enhances the lives of clients by designing systems and processes using organizing principles and through transferring organizing skills.

WHO OR WHAT IS NAPO?
The National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) is a non-profit educational organization whose members include organizing consultants, speakers, trainers, authors and manufacturers or organizing products. NAPO was founded in 1985 and has since grown to include a group of about 4,200 professional organizers dedicated to helping individuals and businesses bring order and efficiency to their lives.

HOW CAN A PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZER IMPROVE MY LIFE?
We offer information, structure, creative ideas and systems that will increase your productivity, reduce your stress and help you to have a greater control over your time, space and money. Organizing is knowing what is important to you to have in your life, and how to arrange them in an organized way that makes sense to you.

DO I NEED TO BE AT HOME TO PARTICIPATE?
I recommend that you be involved with me in as many of the organizing steps as possible. If you are not available for whatever reason, I have full confidence that I can work independently after getting very specific goals and expectations from you. If you are interested and available to do “homework” it is my desire to give you assignments that you can do on your own to help you continue to move forward with your organizing project as quickly as possible!

I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE ON THE HOARDERS SHOW CRY.  WILL THIS HAPPEN TO ME? No. I will work with you at your pace.  I practice “tough love” in helping to guide you through the process of what to keep, sell, donate or discard. You will be the one making these decisions at all times during our session. I  will never insist that something be removed from your home.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?
I currently charge an hourly fee for my services.  My fees are very reasonable for the amount of work that we will be able to accomplish in a four-hour session. With so many individual variables I will discuss the specifics with you in a free phone consultation. It is my desire that at the end of each session you will feel wonderful, and thrilled with my services in your newly, organized environment.  I do expect payment at the end of each session either with cash or a check.

HOW LONG DOES AN ORGANIZING SESSION LAST?
My initial sessions are usually four-hours in length. I am happy and available to increase working together for up to 8 hours if you desire to do so.  I strive to be very flexible and discerning to my clients’ stamina and abilities, that if an adjustment needs to be made, it will be gladly done.

ISN’T CLUTTER JUST PART OF LIFE?
It’s true that many of us are disorganized at times and fall behind in our work, due to illness or other unexpected life events. Being disorganized is one thing, but when the quality of your life suffers and you feel completely overwhelmed or feel like you are sinking deep, you might be more than simply disorganized; you might be chronically disorganized.

WHAT IS CHRONIC DISORGANIZATION?
The National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization (NSGCD) defines chronic disorganization using these criteria: a past history of disorganization in which self-help efforts to change have failed, an undermining of your current quality of life due to disorganization, and an expectation of future disorganization
